Celebrate Christmas & New Year with Brazilian wine!

Christmas is just round the corner but it’s not too late to organise your festive drinking! If you’re looking for something a little bit different this year, then Go Brazil Wines has the answers. This handy guide will give you an idea of the best Brazilian food and wine pairings for your Christmas & New Year celebrations:

The Best Sparkling Wine

The festive season is indeed a time for celebration and we have the perfect way of getting you in party mood with our extensive range of Brazilian sparkling wines.

Why not celebrate with our Geisse Nature Vintage 2010 Magnum (150cl) limited edition! We are delighted to be offering this for the first time in the UK, a Trad Method sparkler which may well pique the interest of both wine collectors and connoisseurs.

Winemaker Carlos Abarzúa describes this rare vintage, pictured, as ‘full-bodied’ with ‘well-developed toasted notes which bring to mind dried fruits and spices.’ Stock is minimal – only 300 Magnums were bottled in 2010 – and there is a limit of one bottle per customer. Each bottle comes in its own stylish presentation box, so would make a great gift too!

Alternatively, you could try our Familia Geisse Blanc de Noir 2017, a delicious white bubbly made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes and recommended to serve with any well-seasoned food.

The Best White Wine

If you are planning to enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner of turkey or chicken, then a white wine may be the best accompaniment, as it is unlikely to overpower the flavour of these more delicately-flavoured meats.

Try, for example, our Pizzato PP Semillon, a gorgeously textured wine which, as well as white meat, can be served with ham, charcuterie, quiches or salads. The first Brazilian Semillon to reach the UK, it has hints of melon, camomile and dried fruits, as well as a lick of buttery vanilla or ‘crème brûlée’. A real star, it was listed recently as one of ‘South America’s 12 Top Whites to Try’ in the respected Decanter wine magazine.

The Best Red Wine

Although we all have our preferences, red wines are traditionally served with red meats: Shiraz/Syrah, Tannat, Malbec or Cabernet Sauvignon-blended reds would typically be good matches for beef or venison, especially when served with a rich gravy and if the dish itself is heavily seasoned or spiced. However, those who enjoy more delicately flavoured game, or goose, might be advised to try a medium-bodied Merlot, Tempranillo or perhaps a Pinot Noir.

Red wine lovers who are looking to push the boat out this year should look no further than our five-grape blend, Traços, (pictured) available in both 75cl and 300cl Double Magnums! This would be a great partner for any well-flavoured red meat dishes, including game, beef and lamb, as well as mature hard cheeses. Decanter magazine described Traços as having ‘elegant aromas with notes of ripe cherry, plum and a hint of spice.’

Adventurous drinkers should also check out our El Gaucho Tannat or Reserva Alicante Bouschet, both featuring unusual grape varieties but bold enough for pairing with game, venison, curries and other spiced dishes, or ‘smelly’ cheeses.

For those who prefer lighter, unoaked and more fruit-driven styles, our Sinais Cabernet Sauvignon or Sinais Merlot would be bang on the mark.

For Vegans and Vegetarians

Of course, large numbers of people prefer to avoid eating meat altogether, with latest estimates suggesting that there are now at least 1 million people in the UK who are vegetarian or vegan. We do cater for this community and can provide the ideal vegan and vegetarian-friendly wines to pair with a wide variety of non-meat meals.

For lighter dishes, we would suggest our Sinais Moscato Giallo or Sinais Itálico Riesling – both are dry and tangy whites, with soft tropical fruit flavours. For heavier dishes, our Reserva Pinot Noir is surprisingly robust, packing plenty of red berry fruit and with a just a hint of vanilla and warm spice.

The Best Sweet Wine

Our Sanjo Nobrese Sparkling Moscato makes a great all-rounder, so drink well chilled as an aperitif or enjoy with a pudding! Although it works well with Christmas pud, if you’re not a fan, try instead with chocolate, meringues, cheesecakes or fruit salads.
