Barbara Eliodora Clássico Syrah 2021

£23.99

Go Brazil is proud to launch this fabulous 100% unoaked Syrah from Barbara Eliodora, the latest and very welcome new winery to be joining our portfolio. Available now!

Nestled at 500m altitude in the southwesterly hills of Minais Gerais, an inland state neighbouring both Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, the winery exemplifies the most exciting and fastest developing trend in Brazilian winemaking: that of the ‘winter’ harvest*. In summary, grapes are picked in late July/early August, when the weather is generally dry and cold and, importantly, when there is a wide variation in day-night (‘diurnal’) temperatures.

The wine here is a maturing Syrah, nearly five years old, deep ruby red in colour and showing plenty of dark, blackberry-like fruit on the nose. Palate is structured, smooth, velvety and rich, but well balanced and with a persistent finish. Not barrel-aged, however some gentle spice and vanilla notes may also be apparent.

Delicious – and still has potential to age further!

*unlike in the most southerly of Brazil’s states, a ‘normal’ harvest would be not be possible here: the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Goiás and others sit within the Tropics, where summer rains fall heavily in February/March and temperatures can be extremely high. A second pruning of the vines ensures that grapes are ready to harvest in the local winter months.
