Description
ABV: 13.5%
APPEARANCE: Deep garnet with slight purple tinge; no ageing visible yet on rim
AROMAS: Attractive blend of ripe blackberry, blue- and blackcurrant, with overtones of cedar, oak and eucalyptus
TASTE: Intense concentration of warm dark, ripe fruits with a fresh, lifted acidity, and well integrated oak. Traces of vanilla from US oak barrel ageing are apparent; tannins are robust but smooth, while finish is pleasantly lingering
FOOD PAIRING: Best enjoyed with well flavoured red meat dishes, especially lamb, beef, game or venison, or mature cheeses
OVERALL: A powerful and exuberant red, drinking well now but has cellaring potential for another 3-5 years
The Pizzato winery is well known for its red wines and in particular for their structure and longevity. It is no coincidence that winemaker Flavio’s reds, from the Gran Reserva range through to his ‘Fausto’ branded second line, are all barrel-aged to a greater or lesser extent
