Garibaldi

Garibaldi is one of Brazil’s largest, best known cooperative wineries and is located in the town of the same name a few kilometres to the south of Bento Goncalves, the country’s wine ‘capital’.

Indeed, the great Italian patriot and nationalist hero actually spent time (in the 1830s) in southern Brazil and gave his name to the town. As we highlight elsewhere, the influence of later generations of Italian emigrants on the region’s winemaking cannot be understated, and it continues to this day.

Founded in 1931, the company itself comprises some 450 member families, all contributing grapes from their own (mainly small) vineyards. These producers receive a high level of technical and practical support to ensure that quality levels are reached and maintained.

Production is not limited to wines: non-alcoholic grape juice, grape jellies, jams and other derivatives are all available on the Garibaldi range, under dozens of different brands.

In 2023 we at Go Brazil introduced three easy-drinking wines together with an excellent Demeter-certified biodynamic sparkler (the first such Brazilian example ever to be launched in the UK).
